Landscaping Your Front Yard Routines

By MFH Team · November 30, 2008 · Filed in House and Home · No Comments »

Home landscaping design is a very creative field, and you can experience an immense sense of satisfaction and self-fulfillment once you see your finished product.

By seeing the fruits of your labor on your lawn, you can learn that with enough hard work, innovation and creativity, you can have the perfect backyard or front lawn that will be the envy of your neighbors.

Here are some do-it-yourself front yard landscaping tips:

1. Survey the general area that you want to landscape and make a plan.

Some home owners end up with a lousy yard landscapingbecause they did not plan well. They just fill up any empty space with plants, without considering the aesthetic design.

For you to succeed in designing your lawn and yard landscaping for your home, sit down and make a rough sketch. Assign areas where you would like to put the plants. Arrange them in such a way that there will be some order, without sacrificing the beauty of your surroundings.

If you plan to use garden furniture, place it in a strategic place where it will be enjoyed.

Remember to stick to your plan once it is finished.

2. Know the reason why you would like front yard landscaping for your lawn.

The main objective of residential landscaping is to maximize the potential of the excess land that you have. Some think that just because you have a grassy area outside the house, it would qualify as a landscaped lawn.

There are a lot of alternative landscaping designs that you can choose to beautify your surroundings.

3. Choose the proper theme for your landscape design.

Research which plants and trees and determine which are best for surviving the seasons of your area. There are shrubs that are appropriate and will do well in your lawn area during the summer season. During the autumn season, there are trees that you can plant that will show off the beauty of your garden.

Just imagine all the colors that will contribute to your landscape design if you select a plant, shrub, flower or tree that blooms or has colorful foliage and looks beautiful during each season of the year.

4. Once you have decided on the plants, make sure that you water them well.

One of the mistakes that homeowners have after they finish their landscape design is insufficient irrigation. Make sure that you water and fertilize your plants according to their needs.

If you are going to be away from home, have somebody do the watering for you. Otherwise, you will end up with an ugly, dried-out lawn and/or garden.

Challenges When Buying A Home In Pasadena Ca

By MFH Team · November 29, 2008 · Filed in Real Estate · No Comments »

Let me save you some time in your search for a home. I always heard that it is good to learn from your mistakes. Thankfully, I have. As a Realtor in Pasadena California I have learned a lot about helping buyers find the right home. I hope that some of my mistakes will save you time when you’re buying a house in Pasadena or any other city.

The first thing you need to do is learn about California Home Loans by talking to a professional that can help you discover how much of a mortgage you will qualify for. This is essential before even going out into the field to search for homes. It doesn’t matter how much you qualified for a year ago because the market has changed. Lenders have tightened their reigns and it is a lot more difficult to be approved for the same amount you may have been approved for in the past.

After getting the lending figured out, you can begin to search for Home Listings. To do so before figuring out the lending situation is like going hunting without any ammo. If you see anything you like you can’t get it! It can be a very frustrating and difficult situation to find the right home and then have to wait a week to write an offer, only to find out that someone else had already bought it.

The difference between being qualified and approved is the difference between a guess and an answer. Qualification is an estimate of how much you will qualify for. An approval requires documentation and it will include a letter from the lender that tells you how much they will lend you if you find an approved piece of real estate.

Because there are complicated steps needed before writing an offer it is limiting the number of buyers that can compete with you. This is a good thing as long as you take the step mentioned above and get pre approved. Then the task is finding the right home and meets your needs.

If you’re looking to buy in Southern California there is an area called San Marino that has prime real estate. San Marino Homes usually sell for more than a million dollars. Last time I checked there were only five homes for sale under one million dollars. This area is known for its luxurious homes and incredible school districts.

Soap Making Business

By MFH Team · November 28, 2008 · Filed in House and Home · No Comments »

Making homemade soap is a popular craft and the soap making is a great business opportunity. But is soap making supposed to be hard? Not anymore! You can make your own soap at home easily with the melt and pour technique.

The only things you will need to buy are: a melt and pour soap base, a fragrance or essential oil and soap dye (you can also use food coloring). You may also wish to buy some plastic molds, but it is possible to find others things that work as a mold around your house, like old yogurt containers or jello molds. You only need to make sure that the container you choose as a mold is flexible enough so you can remove the soap when it hardens.

You can find the other things you need in your kitchen for soap making: a knife to cut the soap base, a wooden spoon to mix your soap, and a double boiler (or a bowl if you wish to use your microwave to melt the soap base).

First, you need to cut your soap base into 1/2″ chunks. You can make any amount of soap you wish, it only depends on the size of your bowl or double boiler and on the number of molds your have.

After, if you use a double boiler, put your soap base in the top pan. Heat very slowly and stir gently to avoid causing bubbles. Do not allow the soap to boil, it may get a yellowish color and eventually burn.

If you use your microwave, put the soap chunks in a bowl. Heat at 20-30 seconds intervals, stirring gently between each interval. You can cover the top of your bowl with saran wrap to avoid spills.

Once all the soap base is melted and have a smooth texture, add the fragrance or essential oil and the dye, stirring slowly once again until everything s well mixed. You only need about .5 oz of each additive by pound of soap (except for food coloring, you only need a few drop in that case). Your best bet for more information would be the label of those products, if any instructions are included.

Then, you can start to pour your soap into the molds. Pour slowly to make sure you do not make bubbles. If you notice any after you are done pouring, spray the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol, which eliminates most of the bubbles without damaging your soap.

Set your molds to the side and let them cool. Once they have cooled a bit, place them in the fridge for about half an hour, it’ll be easier to remove them from their mold if they cool that way.

Finally, you can now remove your soaps from their mold. Place them on a rack and allow it to finish drying for about 24 hours.

After that, the only limit is your imagination. You can put them in cello bags or shrink wrap to sell them, give them away as gift or, why not, use them for yourself! Just make sure you wrap them at least in saran wrap to preserve the fragrance.
